Dangers of frequent teeth bleaching and using abrasion based toothpastes for whitening your teeth
There are some teeth bleaching patients complaining that with repeated treatments to make their teeth appear whiter and cleaner, the time is takes for their teeth to become stained and discolored becomes shorter and shorter.
The time lapse between treatments can be reduced from four months to every few weeks. Such occurrences are due to the damage of the natural protective enamel layer on our teeth. This enamel can be removed together with stains such as tartar and plague buildups when abrasive toothpastes and rough toothbrushes are used. Frequent application of teeth bleaching gels can also lead to enamel damage. When this protection layer is gone, the raw dentin of our tooth is completely exposed and is very easily stained and discolored. Our teeth will also become susceptible to cavities. When you use opalescence tooth whitening products, it actually strengthens the tooth enamel, making it harder and decreases the risk of forming cavities.
