PERIODONTAL DISEASES AFFECT HALF THE ADULT POPULATION

Periodontal diseases is very common and affects at least 50% of adults over 30 years old. ranks second among the most common dental diseases worldwide (the first is tooth decay). The widespread of bad gum diseases is probably due to ignorance. Most people do not know about periodontitis and gingivitis, their symptoms, available treatments, and eventual consequences of improper gum care. Most people do not visit a dentist regularly and is thus not likely to discover they have the initial stages of the disease early. Most only realize they have a gum problem when irreversible damage to the periodontium gum tissues and alveolar teeth structures have occurred.

Check your teeth and gums today for signs of periodontal diseases. If you have red and swollen gums that bleed easily during teeth brushing and flossing, or the gum areas near your teeth looked loose somehow like grapes that have been left around for too long, or you can easily push in a fingernail between your teeth and gums…you better visit your dentist fast. During a periodontal checkup, your dentist or periodontist will also take a x-ray to examine the degree of damage to the alveolar teeth bones. There are many techniques for treating gum diseases and they depend on the stage of the periodontal disease.

Luckily, most gum diseases can be curable and tooth loss can be prevented or at least delayed considerably. All that is needed is proper everyday oral brushing and flossing to remove plague from your teeth. Visit a dentist twice a year to remove tartar deposits on your teeth, in between gaps and under the gums that cannot be easily removed at home by yourself. That is all you need to protect yourself from teeth loss due to periodontal diseases.
